Solar Power Advantages

The demands for alternative technologies are rising. The production of solar PV modules is growing at approximately 25 % annually, and major programs in the U.S., Japan and Europe are rapidly accelerating the implementation of solar systems on buildings and interconnection to the utility networks. China and India are currently major producers and users of both wind turbines and solar PV micro generators.

International cooperation and technology investments over the past 25 years have resulted in fantastic gains in solar PV cell performance. Even more progress has been made in the manufacturing processes. The world installations of PV microgeneration systems rose to 0.93 GW (GW = 109 W) in 2004, a 62 % growth over the 2003 installations. This lags behind wind energy production, but in areas where there is plenty of sunshine, Solar energy provides a much more consistent, less maintenance ( no moving parts)  and abundant source of green energy. Also unlike wind energy, solar energy can be used directly for heating also known as solar heating application. This heating can reduce the requirement of fossil fuels for cooking.

The solar PV alternative technology is probably the most promising technology to:

  • Reduce current reliance on fossil fuel energy sources
  • Reduce the cost of electricity in the long term;
  • Reduce environmental pollution; and
  • Address most of the concerns related to global warming and climate changes
